From the Ground Up

For the month of September, we'll be focusing on the feet, looking at and feeling what it is that literally moves us through our lives.

If you have any problems with your feet -- plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, bunions, fallen arches, or have to wear orthotics for any reason, please join us to learn more about the structure of the foot, and to begin learning a simple routine you can do at home to relieve your pain, and simply feel better with every step.

I've been doing this work for a few years now and find it truly amazing how much tension I hold in my feet that until I started this, was totally unaware of -- it's the kind of thing where you don't know how bad you were feeling until you suddenly begin to feel the alternative.

Some foot nuggets to consider:

Our feet have 26 bones and 33 joints -- all to help us both stabilize and navigate uneven surfaces (think hiking or gravel; or holding a balance posture in yoga, like Tree Pose).

Stuff all that tissue into a shoe that, no matter the kind -- stiletto or running shoe -- doesn't allow the foot its full range of movement, and consider the consequences. Over time, the feet get literally stuck in unhealthy and painful ways.

Yamuna's Foot Wakers (pictured) help open the space between the bones and joints back up, gives flexibility and elasticity back to the muscles and toes, and, as the name suggests, "wakes" the feet up to help it understand its rightful walking pattern.

Yamuna believes we should be able to wear any shoes we like to wear -- as long as we take care of our feet, like brushing and flossing our teeth every day, we can have all the mobility we need with our feet.

It's a great philosophy, and unlike orthotics, gets to the root of the problems in our feet, rather than just propping them up.

We hope you'll join us this month to learn more and discover how to feel better in your feet!
